T.I. & Floyd Mayweather

Rapper T.I. recently released a diss-track taking shots at acclaimed boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr, and this comes as no surprise to many who have followed altercation after altercation between these two heavyweights.

So how did this all start?

Apparently, the whole thing stemmed from Instagram photos T.I.’s wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle sent out on the social-media platform.

May 6th, 2014 – T.I. Approaches Mayweather about picture with Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle.

Mayweather stated, in an interview with NecoleBitchie.com, that the whole mess started in early May 2014 when T.I. approached him after Tiny posted the photo of her and Mayweather together.

The boxer explained; “I been knowing Tiny before T.I. I’ve never slept with her, I never kissed her, never touched her in no inappropriate way. Her friend Shekinah wanted to come to the [May 4th] fight, she brought Tiny with her. … After that, I guess she put a picture up on Instagram of her at the fight so I guess he [T.I.] was feeling some type of way.”

Maywheather said the rapper approached him after that initial Instagram, to which Mayweather replied, “I was basically like, ‘Listen. I’m letting you know I ain’t got…me and your wife don’t have nothing…if you think so.’”
Things seemed all well and good after this, right until…

May 25th, 2014 – T.I.(33) Swings At Floyd Mayweather Jr(37) In Front of ‘Fatburger’ Restaurant.

Witnesses were shocked to see this fight, and the thought on everyone’s’ minds was “What could be the reason?”
Here’s why; On the weekend of May 25th, when the trio of celebs were partying it up in Vegas, Tiny attended a birthday party for Mayweather’s 14-year-old daughter, Lyanna, sending out another Instagram photo of she and the birthday girl. Accompanying the image of Tiny and Lyanna together was the caption “Had to come celebrate with my new boo @moneyyaya. Happy Birthday bae.”

This photo seemingly infuriated rapper T.I. to the point where he felt the only option was to confront Mayweather Jr at a restaurant where he just had a meal.
Watch a short video of that altercation here:

Mayweather stated: “I’m eating at Fatburger and next thing you know, he walk in talking about we need to talk again. Then a couple of words exchange and people got to pushing and a riot kinda broke out. And then a bunch of chaos and that was basically it.

At this point Mayweather Jr issued an apology to Tiny, saying: “Only person I wanna apologize towards is Tiny. I said something like ‘control your bitch’ and I don’t want to say that about Tiny. So I do apologize to Tiny because she cool people, man. She cool. She never been disrespectful to me.”
Once again, things seemed to die down until…

November, 2016 – A Whole Lot of Back and Forths….

Tiny (who seems quite oblivious to all this) was once again the spark, as she turned up in yet another recording with Floyd, this time dancing together at Mariah Carey’s Halloween party in October of 2016. Tiny had previously said she simply posed for a photo with Mayweather at Mariah Carey’s request, but the later released footage appeared to show the both of them dancing together at Mariah’s.

Not long after this, T.I. posted a clip of Kevin Hart making fun of Mayweather’s father, which he seemed totally in agreement with based on the caption he added.

T.I. had also attacked Mayweather on his “All Lives Matter” stance, calling the boxer’s opinion “socially irresponsible, inconsiderate, & insensitive.”

In what appeared to be a response to all this, Mayweather posted an image of a $100million dollar check to his Instagram account. “Ultimately, I will have the last laugh”, he boasted.

At this point everyone began to get the feeling that this enmity was going nowhere, and then….

February 14th, 2019 – T.I. Releases Diss Track Slamming Floyd Mayweather Jr.

As soon as the news came out that T.I. was releasing a track dissing Floyd Mayweather, of course everyone’s mind went immediately to one person: Tiny.
However T.I. denied all claims that his wife was the reason behind the targeted song.

He claimed it was due to Mayweather’s refusal to join in on the mass boycott of the brand GUCCI, which released a controversial ‘Blackface” sweater during Black History Month, a release which caused a major outcry and which Gucci has since pulled from sales, tendering a ‘deep’ apology.

TMZ had spotted Mayweather shopping at Gucci earlier in the week, in spite of the growing boycott. When asked about it, he said:
“I’m not no follower, I do what the fuck I wanna do.” He later added, “We all know racism still exists, but that’s not gonna stop my drive. I’ve got friends from all walks of life and to me of course Black Lives Matter first. But my thing is this, I’m gonna tell you to go out there, live life and be happy and be positive.”

T.I., who had been joined on the boycott by Soulja Boy, Russel Simmons, Waka Flocka Flame and many more, was infuriated once again. He took shots at Mayweather without mentioning the boxer’s name, calling him an“old greedy ass n***a” who’s “only thinkin’ about himself.”

Many people still felt that the diss track was less about Gucci, and more about the cheating allegations concerning Mayweather and Tiny, his wife. T.I. responded:

This lady right here (Tiny is seated next to him), she can be wherever she want to be. She want to be there, she can be there. [If] that’s where she want to be I ain’t got no problem.”

He added, “Man listen, if it was anything, I don’t give a fuck. If she went over there and had a good time that’s damn nice for her.”

Tiny’s Take

Finally, what does Tiny herself have to say about all this?

When asked, she denied ever sleeping with Floyd Mayweather Jr, and added that she felt no guilt or remorse about spending time with the boxer.

“I think it was fine. Every woman needs a little something, attention, especially when she ain’t getting it,” Tiny said on an episode of Kandi Koated Nights. “If you ain’t giving it, she’s gonna go what, get it somewhere else.”
Now isn’t that something. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed and see how this all unfolds!
